The final competition of the FIRST Lego League tournament in Serbia, was held in Zemun, on 20.02.2016. in the elementary school “Sonja Marinković”. Ten teams from Serbia, age 9-16, were challenged to find the best solution for the one of the real-world’s problems - TRASH TREKsm Challenge. Guided by adult coaches, young teams had an opportunity to educate themselves through What We Do (Robot game in Project) and How We Do (FLL core values). Since the official tournaments must follow the judging and the awards structure determined by FIRST Lego League, teams had to prepare Core Value, Project and Robot Design.
DataStation Innovation Cloud had the privilege to support a young team from Kragujevac named Legogym. Our developer Marina Banjević took part as a mentor together with their professors and coaches Katarina Veljković and Ljubica Mudrić Staniškovski. With their solution for recycling markers for whiteboards, Legogym team was one of the two teams who will represent the colors of Serbia on the tournament in Slovenia. Their idea is based on creating machine that will separate recyclable parts of the markers from the non-recyclable ones. This idea is very innovative because there is no systematic solution for recycling markers for whiteboards in the world. This could prove to be a great and innovative solution for all companies working in different industries, from creating laws to machines and solutions for this problem. They also designed a robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology.
Legogym was also selected by the Judges as the best example of Core Values part of the tournament. Core values are the cornerstone of this program because through the teamwork in finding the best solution for the challenge, they are learning together through fun, developing critical thinking and practicing presentation skills.
FIRST Lego League has a perfect way to challenge all kids to think as scientists and engineers. We at DataStation Innovation Cloud are happy to guide and support Legogym on their path to win FIRST Lego League region tournament in Slovenia.
